Scandi Heads & Lines

Explore Scandi shooting heads and integrated lines for Spey and Trout Spey rods. Scandi tapers are well suited to presenting smaller, lighter flies. Depending on the line and setup, these can include traditional steelhead patterns, soft hackles, and small, lightly weighted trout streamers.

➤ Choosing Your Scandi Setup
  • Separate shooting heads: Pair with a compatible running line and leader. Loop-to-loop connections let you change heads without replacing the running line.
  • Integrated Scandi lines: Combine the head and running line in one continuous line, removing the rear loop connection that would otherwise pass through your guides.
  • Leader selection: Use a tapered leader or compatible polyleader or VersiLeader, following the line manufacturer’s recommendations for length and weight.

Match the head’s grain weight and length to your specific rod and casting style. Fly size and leader choice also affect turnover, so check the recommendations for your chosen line rather than relying on rod weight alone.
