GFS Fly Assortments are all hand-picked by our staff of pros. These are Flies that we picked because we fish these Flies. Our goal is to put together useful assortments for various fisheries or seasons and to add a new selection every month. We’re not talking master sets of stuff that most likely won’t get used but instead a few basic "go to” patterns that will get the job done and help to fill your box with useful Flies.
Our first assortment starts with Flies we picked for our Cascade Range High elevation Lakes. We have found that over many years of fishing these lakes that these are standard "don’t leave home without them” Flies. Lakes such as Lost Lake, Goose Lake and Trillium Lake all come to mind. But these Flies are more useful than just for those places, they can catch fish anywhere you find Trout or Panfish. Great Starter assortment.
The Deschutes River Stonefly/Salmon fly hatch is quite possible one of the most famous hatches known to anglers everywhere. A true Fly Fisherman has been there for it or has it on their bucket list. For the Native Redside Trout this is Bonanza, Buffet, Banquet and biggest feast of the year all in one relatively short season. For GFS it’s located in our backyard. These Giants are found though out the northwest on Rivers such as the Yakima, Henry’s fork, Yellowstone and Big Hole. It’s no surprise that this assortment would include some famous Flies such as the Norm Woods, Clark Stone and Improved Sofa Pillow.
Coming soon will be John Day River Bass, Summer Run Steelhead, Winter run Steelhead, Permit, Bonefish, Tarpon, Streamers and no telling what the Gorge Fly Shop Pros will come up with.
