Fishing the salt is grueling, so Ross built the Evolution R Salt 9/10 Matte Merlot specifically for serious saltwater and big game fly fishing. Based on the Evolution R platform, it uses a rigid, fully machined frame and large-arbor spool for rapid line pickup, rock-solid stability under load, and smooth performance when long runs and heavy pressure test your gear.
Instead of the Evolution R’s 7-disc drag, the R Salt steps up to a supercharged 16-disc sealed drag system made from stainless steel and carbon fluoropolymer, capable of producing nearly 30 pounds of drag pressure. Two small counterbalances on the spool reduce mass and help deliver smooth, vibration-free performance when line is screaming off the reel. A large, frame-integrated drag knob makes on-the-fly adjustments easy with the palm of your hand during long fights.
The 9/10 size is well suited to modern 9- and 10-weight setups targeting powerful saltwater species such as tarpon, GTs, roosterfish, and stripers, where backing capacity and stopping power are critical. Finished in a deep Matte Merlot colorway, the Evolution R Salt 9/10 pairs a refined look with a strong, corrosion-resistant build designed to perform in demanding saltwater environments.
