Review: I’m very selective when it comes to buying a fly rod. I’ve owned many over the years, but the best rod I’ve ever cast is the Burkheimer 489-4. I bought the Classic several years ago, and it is, by far, the best trout rod I’ve ever owned or used. I like it so much, that I bought a second one in Vintage style, and use them both to the exclusion of many other very good rods. If I had to own just one trout rod, this would be it. The Gorge Fly Shop makes buying a Burkheimer an absolute pleasure. If you’ve never tried a Burkie, do yourself a favor and try this rod. No other rod has the feel of a Burkie.
