Another stillwater staple! A lot of chironomid pupa will have a red butt, this is caused by the hemoglobin not completely being absorbed in the larval stage. I like to tie mine with a slightly brighter red, the holographic material works great for this. These are commonly fished static, under an indicator as to control the depth in which you'd like to fish this fly, which is typically near the bottom. Avid stillwater anglers will have a variety of red butt chironomids with various body and rib colours. Call it a hotspot or not, either way rainbows like it!
